Les fichiers MSI ou CAB nécessitent Windows Installer. Windows Installer est un service d'installtion et de configuration d'applications. Il est recommandé d'installer et d'utiliser la dernière version. Le produit est gratuit et est, normalement, livré en standard avec les différentes versions de Windows toutefois il évolue et les dernières versions sont "tous systèmes". Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 était inclus dans Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Windows Installer 3.1 est désormais disponible en tant que composant système redistribuable pour les systèmes d'exploitation suivants : Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) Microsoft Windows XP Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Il permet d'installer "Windows Installer" ou de mettre à jour une version antérieure. Celui-ci existe en plusieurs versions : Windows Installer 1.1 Redistributable pour Windows 95 and 98 Windows Installer 1.1 Redistributable for Windows NT 4.0 Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable pour Windows NT 4.0 et 2000 Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable pour Windows 95, 98, and Me Windows Installer 3.0 Redistributable Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable pour Windows 2000 Service Pack 3; Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2. Ne permet pas d'être installé ou de mettre à jour Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 qui contient déjà cette version de Windows Installer. Pour les versions 64 bits de Windows Server 2003 Ce composant redistribuable est valide uniquement pour les systèmes d'exploitation en 32 bits. Vous ne pouvez pas installer ce composant sur un ordinateur qui exécute une édition 64 bits de Windows Server 2003. Vous pouvez installer le package redistribuable Windows Installer 3.0 sur Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) et sur la version d'origine de Windows Server 2003. Windows Installer 3.1 était inclus dans Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Vous ne pouvez pas installer ce redistributable sur les éditions 32 bits et 64 bits de Windows Server 2003 SP1. Pour mettre à jour les éditions 32 bits et 64 bits de Windows Server 2003 SP1 ou pour mettre à jour les éditions 64 bits de Windows XP, téléchargez le correctif décrit dans l'article 898715 de la Base de connaissances Microsoft à la place du package 893803 (v2).
